The Tory Burch Foundation In Support of Women Entrepreneurs

"Tory Burch has grown to a company of almost 700 people, but seven years ago, I started the company out of my apartment with just two." - Tory Burch

We are all aware that small businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating 75% of our jobs. Currently there are more the 22 million people who are unemployed, and as a means to help the small business community the Tory Burch Foundation was launched as a means of economically empowering women. Providing women with the financial support they need to start and grow businesses through microfinance is the goal of the Tory Burch Foundation. The average loan is $8,000 and creates or saves 2.4 jobs. Just 7 years ago, Tory was searching for ways to provide financial support for her business. It's so great to see designers reach out a helping hand to those in search of the same dreams and aspirations.

At Veronica Suarez Collections we like to give back to the community!

Last week, VSC donated a handbag to the Purses for Pursenalities foundation benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of NYC. The organization put together a charity luncheon at Madison Square Garden where Handbags were auctioned in order to raise funds contributing to the education of NYC youth.

Here are a few pictures of a few people who attended the event. Soon we will be putting up information about people who bought our bags and feedback in regards to the event!

Fun day at the "Save the Garment Center" Rally!!

Today the ORA Design group and I took a trip over to the "Save the Garment Center" Rally. It was a nice event hosted by the Garment Center and designers and manufacturers in the city. Hopefully, this event will remind the New York City politicians why the Garment Center is such an integral part of the city. This rally is a bold reminder of fashion’s importance, especially considering the apparel industry is the second largest employer in all of NYC.

Getting Smart About the Hierarchy of Smart!

A beautiful strategy in regards to the variety of different types of workers, I came across on Seth Godin's Blog.

1. Novice
--wants to be given a manual, told what to do, with no decisions possible

2. Advanced beginner
--needs a bit of freedom, but is unable to quickly describe a hierarchy of which parts are more important than others

3. Competent
--wants the ability to make plans, create routines and choose among activities

4. Proficient
--the more freedom you offer, the more you expect, the more you'll get

5. Expert
--writes the manual, doesn't follow it.

If you treat an expert like a novice, you'll fail
