Latin American Influence on Fashion & Sao Paulo Fashion Week

Some of the looks below are from a recap of Fashion Week in Sao Paulo. It is great to see South Americans getting more coverage as they continue to set trends in the fashion industry. This I  believe will become increasingly important in the states in the years to come as the latin american population continues to grow.

Below I pulled 3 of my favorite looks from Sao Paulo fashion week, it is great to see these designers conceptualize such contemporary looks. For many years Brazil has held an important role in developing textiles, clothing, and footwear and today it continues to expand its international profile. With many of the free trade agreements with South America and the states, Brazilians and Colombians are showing the world there is much more to South American Fashion than Havianas and barely there swim suits. Brazil is a market that is very open to innovative ideas. With 60 percent of the population under 29 years, Brazil is generating an influx of young, vibrant and innovative designers. Brazil fashion week is also getting more attention as brazilian super model Gisele Bundchen attend yearly to promote the talent in her native country, which obviously pulls in more international crowds.

In Colombia, many fashion designers are striving towards revolutionizing the influence of the 80's and 90's on beauty and fashion, and encouraging more subtle, feminine, cleavage-free, organic looks.  Many of the looks are very contemporary yet are made by local artisans. Many designers are all about incorporating local talent and resources with international inspirations and influence, which is why these designers are able to bring a new perspective globally that is appealing to women all over the world.
