As I roam the around the city putting together my collection together for Fall 2011, I can't help but get inspired by all the beautiful colors of this city. Here I am thinking of my next collection for Spring and Summer. What I really love most about the images above is the ethnic representation of tropical beauty that embodies the Colombian Culture. The woven fabrics in bright color palettes remind me of the tropical fruits and fresh juices. The beautiful beds of flowers that cover the lush green landscapes celebrate the beauty of nature. I would love to travel to the tribal cities of this country and get inspired by the people who live in communities inspired by nature, family, survival and love. There is nothing more symbolic to the largest indigenous community of Colombia than these vibrant fabrics woven together by the Wayuu people. The Wayuu people reside in the Region of La Guajira situated at the border of Colombia and Venezuela. To knit in the indigene community of the Wayuu is much more than a cultural activity or an inheritance of their ancestors. To knit is an expression of their intelligence, wisdom and creativity as they feel it. To me, these knits represent a life woven together by the simple pleasures of life. One of my favorite quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein is, "The aspects of things that are most important to us are hidden because of their simplicity and familiarity". Each day that I continue to pursue my dreams I aim to experience something new each day so that I am able to distinguish these familiarities in the obstacles I am confronted with. Celebrating and understanding the simple pleasures of life helps in times of uncertainty, helping you find direction along the way. Maybe my handbags inspired by the simple pleasures of life can maybe help others find happiness in their heart leading a life that is conducive to love, community and kindness.
